Recruiting Report: Walt McGrory (2017)
Edina senior guard Walt McGrory gained the most votes in last week’s Player Of The Week voting, sponsored by the Intensive Basketball Camp. He has helped Edina to a 4-2 record (including a massive win over Hopkins) with a strong 28 PPG.
Walt is usually a man of few words. He doesn’t have Twitter, nor does he publicize almost any of his recruiting developments. NHR got to chat with him briefly on what has changed this season.
“I think the biggest thing for me this year is that I’m fully recovered from the hip surgeries that I had done after my sophomore season,” McGrory told NHR. “Those surgeries caused me to miss all of AAU and I never felt 100% during my junior year or this past AAU season. But now I feel great and I was finally able to work on my game a ton going into this season which has helped my game a lot.”
Walt prefers not to name the schools he has scholarship offers from, but he did take a visit to Furman recently that he says “went really well.” He is planning on making a decision in the next couple months.
“I want to play at the highest level I can while being at a place I feel really comfortable with the coaches and players. Being at a school with strong academics and located in an area l like are big factors too.”
