His first Division I offer came from an in-state program, shortly after his 15U campaign
“I have numerous letters from programs, and I have one offer so far and that’s from Ohio University. They offered about two months ago, I think it was,” said Holden.
Though he’s just a sophomore, he has already taken unofficials to Ohio, Ohio State and West Virginia. He spoke briefly about what he likes about those programs.
“I just like the way they all play. I like getting up and down,” said Holden. “That fits my game and my style of play.”
Xavier, Davidson, Virginia and a couple smaller schools have also sent some early recruitment his way. And he says his offer from Ohio has motivated him to want and play better.
“Starting out with this offer going into my sophomore season really boosted my level of play, to where I feel I have to step up and show that I deserve the offer,” said Holden. “And going into this year I just need to keep going and step it up a little bit so that more offers can come my way.”
A good-sized wing, who likely projects as a small forward at the next level, Holden defined his playing style to PHOH.
“My impact starts by being a strong rebounder, I rebound very well. And then I can shoot the 3 pretty well. And driving, kicking, just whatever I can do to help the team out” said Holden, who explained his role with the Pirates.
“My role this year is I’ll have to step up tremendously. This year I’m the guy and I’ll have to make and create plays not just for myself but for my teammates. And I’ll have to be a role-model for the other guys on my team.”
