The Favorites
Brad Davison. Brad is the first player to step up and have “a Mr Basketball Moment”. With the clocking winding down and the score tied Davison made a game winning three against DeLaSalle to win the game and the video has been seen all over You Tube. Brad had 28 against the Islander defense (10 of 11 free throws).
McKinley Wright. The Champlin Park guard has put up some huge numbers and had the type of game against Apple Valley that Mr. Basketball contenders put forth. Scored 27 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists against five star Tre Jones who had trouble keeping Wright in front of him. The Rebels won convincingly and continue to prove their number one ranking.
Nathan Reuvers. Like McKinely, Reuvers may not have had that singular moment, but he had a huge performance in front of the state at the Tip Off Classic. Scored 35 points with 15 rebounds against nationally ranked center Daniel Oturo. After leading the Panthers to an overtime win on Saturday, Reuvers then pushed his team to a win over another top ten team (Chaska) last night 48-46. Reuvers had 21 points in a slugfest.
Goanar Mar. Goanar proved he also belongs in this group with his monster 40 point performance against Armstrong and national recruit Race Thompson. The three time defending champion did not have the Breakdown Tip Off Classic the other three did because of foul trouble. He did have a nice second half keeping the Islanders in the game with Maple Grove. Goanar is averaging 24 a game which is really impressive considering most of the DeLaSalle starters sat down in blowout wins over St. Agnes and Concordia Academy.
Top Three Contenders
Ishmael El-Amin. Averaging 27 a game after a crushing win last night and an 11 of 16 shooting performance at the Tip Off Classic vs JM. Definitely keeping his name on the top five list.
Trae Berhow. At the Tip Off Classic the Pepperdine commit put up nearly a triple double that included 30 points and 25 rebounds. Royals are ranked and undefeated and Berhow has fantastic.
Theo John. Two games in front of the state, two huge outings for the Marquette signed big. Had 19/7/7/3 against John Marshall and then he was the difference in the win over Apple Valley with 22 points, 17 rebounds, and five blocks. Likely the leader right now for the fifth spot.
Other Contenders
Jericho Sims. Recently scored 31 in a loss to Park of Cottage Grove and 24 Saturday in a four point won over Hope Academy.
Simon Wright. Another 16 and 10 performance at the Breakdown event, and then 20 last night against Lakeville South.
Myles Hanson. Had 26 in the Breakdown Tip Off Classic loss and then was one score away from getting his team a huge win versus Lakeville North.
Jordan Horn. Scored 23 points and took over the game late against Armstrong at the Tip Off Classic.
What About?
Tywhon Pickford. Don’t forget about Pickford this year. Colleges haven’t as they have been blowing up the phone trying to see how he looked. Made four early treys, a double-double of 23 and 15 against the Islanders, and as big as the Brad shot was the Crimson don’t win without him.
Senior to Know
Zach Bloemker. The Marshall point guard was outstanding in the Marshall blowout of Minneapolis Patrick Henry. Hit eight threes on his way to 32 huge points. Then hit five more treys last night.
