And though he was a starter last year as a sophomore, he’s looked upon as the team’s leader this season.
“Last year I started all of our games, but I wasn’t asked to do too much; I was just asked to defend, hit some open shots and just be kind of a role guy,” said Pohlman. “I think this year I’m stepping up, and my teammates are looking at me as a guy they can count on when we need a bucket.”
A versatile wing, Pohlman brings good size and a diverse skill-set to the table, and he says although he can play many spots on the floor, he’s most comfortable at the small forward position.
“I’m a lefty and an improving shooter, I’ve definitely gotten a lot better at that — I’m comfortable shooting from anywhere on the court. But I think what I’m best at is attacking the hoop, and finishing while driving. And I think I’m a really good post-up, so that’s something that I’ve gotten a lot better at too,” said Pohlman.
“I’ll play anywhere my coach asks me too. Right now I’m playing small forward for my team, but I’ll play four sometimes. I’d say small forward is where I’m most comfortable.”
With still plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize, Pohlman’s main focus is on his high school season. But he’s got a strong desire to play hoops at the next level.
“I’ve gotten some letters from some D3 schools mostly, like Muskegon and other teams in their league (MCCAA), and that’s what’s been happening. Mostly just emails and stuff like that so far,” said Pohlman.
“I mean recruitment is something I think about. Right now I’m more focused on the season and us doing well as a team. If it happens I’d really like to play college basketball, I love basketball, it’s what I love to do do. And I’d be open to playing anywhere, I just love to be around the game.”
