Prospect Spotlight: Tiavey Mason
Christian County smothered Graves County Thursday night at the Marshall County Hoopfest, 68-57. The smotheriest defenders were: Taivey Mason and Ja’Quon Long.
Long demonstrated the toughness and grit of a football player. He plays receiver/safety during the fall.
Mason was especially disruptive. Almost every time a GCHS guard dipped inside the arc, Mason whacked down on the basketball, dislodging it from their pocket. Mason caused countless deflections. His defensive presence really frustrated the Graves County guards. Their offensive flow didn’t even appear until garbage time.
Long’s arm strength enabled him to poke many balls free too.
Once the ball popped out either DeTerrion Ware or Jaylen Sebree (Coastal Carolina signee) collected and quickly distributed to the break. Mason finished with 21 points on 8-13 shooting. Many of his points were off turnovers, out on the run. Mason is very quick with and without the ball.
Mason’s four assists and four steals really helped the Colonels. In fact, Mason earned Hoopfest Player of the Game honors.
Sebree was also excellent, mostly in the fourth quarter.
The Hoopfest continues Friday.
