Lima Senior is off to a 1-1 start to the early season, but Ward is performing well. “The start of the season has been tough. We have a really young team. I’m one of the only returning varsity players, but we are getting better every day and starting to click,” said Ward.
Ward is averaging 23 points per game, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists in the first two games of the season. Able to play both guard positions, Ward describes his game in this way – “I’m a combo guard that can defend really well. I shoot the ball well, but I’d rather get into the lane and drive it first.”
A member of the King James Shooting Stars grassroots (EYBL) program, Ward said he performed at a C+ level this summer. “I was coming off an injury, so I was favoring my leg quite a bit. But I played well other than that.” During the off-season Jarius said he worked on getting stronger for the upcoming high school season. “I lived in the weight room and put up a lot of shots.”
Ward currently has such schools as Kent State, Akron, Radford, Eastern, and Youngstown recruiting him. Others are sure to come as the high school season progresses. “I’m looking for a school where I can trust the coach, that is somewhere I feel comfortable, and somewhere I can possibly play right away.”
His goals for his senior season include getting better every day, winning conference, and wining a state championship.
