A versatile 6’4 player, McCullough can shoot the 3 from a good range and can go in and post up when needed.
McCullough said he spent the summer focused on improving his defense and working on getting to the rim and finishing in traffic with Run GMC. One of the nation’s premier Under Armor programs, Run GMC won the High Profiles tournament and the Jayhawk Invitational played in Kansas City, and placed sixth in the Under Armor Finals in Atlanta, Ga.
Ottawa returns eight varsity players and all five starters and entered the season ranked fourth in 4A-D1 preseason KBCA rankings.
“This high school season should be special,” he said. “Our goal this year is to get to state and hopefully hoist up a trophy.”
He is off to a good start, going for 34 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Piper in the Cyclones’ season opener.
McCullough said the team he is looking forward to playing the most is Eudora and Mitchell. Ballock, who has signed to play at Creighton.
“We have been teammates since the fourth grade and it is always fun to go at it with him,” McCullough said. “He is a great player and I always look forward to the 2 games we get to play against him.”
McCullough says he enjoys watching Russell Westbook play and that his dad has been the biggest influence on his basketball career.
“He has always pushed me and made me work my hardest. Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today,” he said. “Westbrook is so explosive and pretty much does everything on his team. He is one of the best scorers, passers, and a great rebounder as well. He makes everyone around him better, which is what I hope to do with my team.”
McCullough currently does not yet have any offers, and says he has drawn some interest from Adams State, but otherwise hasn’t drawn much college attention yet, but hopes that will change with a big season at Ottawa.
