Prep Hoops Colorado 5A Team Rankings: Week 2
It was an exciting opening week of action at the 5A level.
Here’s where things stand in our rankings heading into Week 2:
1. Eaglecrest (2-0, Last week: 1)
Colbey Ross dropped 30 points in what was likely the game of the week, a 77-75 victory over Chatfield.
2. Smoky Hill (2-0, LW: 2)
The Buffs put on a constant dunking highlight reel while breezing to wins over Brighton and Hinkley.
3. George Washington (3-0, LW: 4)
A perfect 3-0 record at the Rock Canyon/Mountain Vista tournament included victories over two top teams in RC and MV.
4. Denver East (3-0, LW: 5)
Sophomores Kwane Marble and Assane Diouf were big in helping the Angels take the title at the Gojo Sports Tipoff Classic.
5. ThunderRidge (1-0, LW: 7)
The Grizzlies opened with an impressive 72-46 victory Friday over Boulder.
6. Overland (1-0, LW: unranked)
An eight-point victory over highly regarded Regis Jesuit sent a statement: the Blazers aren’t going to fall off the map now that De’Ron Davis is getting buckets for Indiana. Daijon Smith, the rising 6-2 2018 guard, scored 26 points in the win over the Raiders.
7. Regis Jesuit (1-1, LW: 3)
The Raiders rebounded from a surprising loss to Overland to thrash Mullen.
8. Rock Canyon (2-1, LW: 6)
The Jaguars routed Loveland and Arapahoe before the narrow loss to George Washington.
9. Doherty (1-0, LW: 8)
The Spartans sprinted past Bear Creek on Thursday. They’ll get a stiffer test Tuesday against 4A No. 1 Valor Christian.
10. Chatfield (1-1, LW: unranked)
The narrow miss against Eaglecrest, coupled with a rout of up-and-coming Douglas County, showed the Chargers still plan to do damage after running to the 5A semifinals last season.
