Sophomore big man Armando Bacot recorded 18 points and was named tournament MVP. Below are the 10 best from the championship contest.
MVP | ARMANDO BACOT | TRINITY ’19
Armando Bacot was simply dominant on both ends of the floor. A top three prospect in Virginia’s 2019 class, Bacot is starting to turn his potential into production.
BEST OFFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | ARMANDO BACOT | TRINITY ’19
Bacot scored the ball from all three levels. He hit a three from the top of the key and showed solid footwork and touch in the low post.
BEST DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE | ARMANDO BACOT | TRINITY ’19
Another thing Bacot did exceptionally well was rebound in traffic. Bacot understands how to effectively use his robust frame to seal off opponents. He also showcased good coordination, strength, and incredibly soft hands when handling the ball.
BEST UNDER-THE-RADAR PERFORMANCE | JASON WADE | TRINITY ’18
Jason Wade has been an integral factor to Trinity’s early season success. He stepped comfortably into a role as a playmaker and lockdown defender in the absence of their leader and floor general, Aaron Duhart.
BEST CATCH AND SHOOT GUY | XAVIER LIPSCOMB | SSSAS ’20
Xavier Lipscomb is a name to remember in the freshman class. The lefty guard showed poise and confidence, hitting two fourth quarter threes during the Saints furious comeback attempt.
BEST GUY OFF THE BENCH | EPHRAIM REED | SSSAS ’19
Sophomore guard Ephraim Reed brought incredible energy off the bench for Saints Head Coach Ron Ginyard. Reed scored all 5 of his points in the second half.
BEST INTANGIBLES | DOMENICK BAILEY | SSSAS ’18
Saints guard Domenick Bailey was excellent throughout the tournament, and he came to play in the championship. Bailey was very crafty around the basket and shrewdly drew contact from the Trinity bigs. Bailey was very active and effective defensively both on and off the ball.
BEST UNDERCLASSMEN | ARMANDO BACOT | TRINITY ’19
There were a wide range of talented underclassmen in the tournament this year, but none better than the Titans dominant big man. Bacot possesses a rare blend of size, feel, and touch to go along with an improving physical presence.
BEST REBOUNDER | ARMANDO BACOT | TRINITY | ’19
We’re still awaiting on the official rebound totals from Legit Stats, but it’s safe to assume Bacot recorded the most rebounds in the game, and cleared 10 for the game. The sophomore big actively pursued the ball and did well to secure it high off the glass and keep it away from opponents.
BEST PASSER | JASON WADE | TRINITY ’18
Wade exhibited good vision throughout the three-day run for the Titans. He loves to push the ball up the court and is very quick and accurate with his delivery.
