Vincent Miranda – 6’0/PG/2017 – NorthWood – Miranda continues to impress with his leadership and his shooting ability. His jumper has come a long way and it is now a major weapon for him. He doesn’t have to be set in his lower half, just the hands. His ball handling has really improved as well and he looked good against speed. Defense is still going to be an area where he will have to get better but he is a guy willing to work and put the time in.
Tyler Smith – 6’2/PG/2017 – Northeastern – Smith has done a good job and continuing his progression into a well-rounded point guard. He’s able to push the ball more and get others involved in the transition part of the game His jump shot wasn’t great today and it looked a little rushed at times but on the drive he was exceptional. He was using a change of speed, spin, move, and his length to make plays that Oak Hill just couldn’t stop. Smith finished with 23 points but only 9/22 from the field, 0/4 from three.
Jermaine Couisnard – 6’5/SF/2017 – East Chicago Central – Cousinard is a tall wing with decent handles that allow him to create off the bounce. He did that pretty well against Tech who didn’t have a ton of defense going in that game. He scored 25 points on 7/12 shooting but only went ¼ from three.
Ernest Myles – 6’5/SF/2017 – Arsenal Tech – Myles is a wing player that plays more like an undersized forward. Not going to be a guy that stretches the floor with his shooting ability, but rather a guy that can catch on the wing and drive. Loves to play uptempo and in transition. He scored 19 points on 7/13 shooting without attempting a three-pointer. His rebounding is really good though and while only 6’5, he can provide some help in and around the rim.
Jaylen Butz – 6’9/PF/2017 – Fort Wayne North – Butz continued his streak of great play with a 15 points, 13 rebound performance. He wasn’t as impactful today mainly because a lot of the play was up and down and drew him away from the basket more often than normal. He’s still really doing a great job on the boards, giving max effort and really taking advantage of every play. That effort level is the biggest change in his game from a year ago.
Cameron Wilbon – 6’4/SF/2017 – Merrillville – Wilbon is a long, lean wing that has a ton of athletic ability and scores most of his points in the open floor or on junk around the rim. He did score 21 points with most coming at the rim. Doesn’t have a ton of explosiveness, much more of a glider that finishes long, not high.
Jonah Jackson – 6’2/SG/2017 – Merrillville – This was one of the better games we have seen from Jackson. The 6’2 wing hit shots from start to finish and ended with 17 points on 6/18 shooting. He’s normally more of a passive player but this was about the exact opposite for him as he shot 15 three pointers, only making three. He showed a little bit off the bounce but it was to create and get a mid-range jumper.
Eddy Collins – 5’11/SG/2017 – McCutcheon – In a game that finally put Collins on the ball, due to Phinisee being out with a thigh bruise, Collins put up some big numbers. He had 37 points on 11/20 shooting. He only went 3/9 from three which is his biggest strength so to see him handle the ball and score in the lane and off the bounce, it was impressive. He also chipped in four assists.
Haden Deaton – 6’5/SF/2017 – McCutcheon – With Phinisee out, you saw Deaton really step up. He had 29 points on 10/21 shooting, 5/9 from three. He was active and helping out bringing the ball up against Merrillville’s length and size. He did a great job on the boards as well, grabbing 12 rebounds with five coming on the offensive end that really helped close out the game down the stretch. Grace College commit.
Malik Williams – 6’10/PF/2017 – Fort Wayne Snider – This was a game that you would expect most of the time from Williams. He scored 27 points on 8/19 shooting. He’s a tremendous player but there might be a little transition into the college game as he learns to handle the ball against a higher level of player. Had a bit of trouble against Lawrence North’s guards handling the ball in the open floor. Louisville commit.
