6. LCA
I’m not sure exactly what to think of LCA right now. I know that the talent is there, but after getting blown out by Madison Prep, I was expecting a thrashing of Northwest, but the Knights only won by 10, and were trailing in the 4th quarter, against a team that started 0-6. I know that a win is a win, but I was expecting more.
5. Riverside
Riverside has the potential to finish the season as the best team in the state, however, they have only played 2 games thus far, and as a result, other teams have built a better resume this early in the season. That can all change this week, however, with two games at home against Landry-Walker and Scotlandville.
4. U-High
I had not expected U-High to be this good once again this season. The Cubs have started out 10-0 in what was supposed to be a down year for them. That has to be at least a little bit scary for the rest of the top teams in the state.
3. Madison Prep
And down goes the top team! After the way that the Chargers started the season, I honestly didn’t think there was a team in the state that could beat them. However, Scotlandville proved they are beatable. When I told Coach Jeff Jones that Madison Prep would be the first team ranked number 1, he said he wished I would put them at number 3 or 4, because number one is bad luck. Sorry coach. I will take full responsibility for that loss. You were right.
2. Natchitotches Central
So far this season, the Chief’s have yet to have a statement win, and are ranked this high as a result of last season. I am interested to see how they will do this week, on the road at Comeaux. This game can be the statement win they have been searching for.
1. Scotlandville
“When you come for the king you best not miss.” Up until this point this season, Madison Prep had been the king of basketball in Louisiana, but there is a new crownholder. But that is nothing new for Javonte Smart, who scored a game high 31 in the win. The Hornets also toppled Landry-Walker, and have a chance to build on their resume as they play Riverside this week. Talk about a three game stretch!
