FW Bishop Luers at FW North Side
Final Score: Bishop Luers 54 – North Side 70
Tale of two halves. This game started off slow for Bishop Luers in terms of first quarter scoring. The Legends had a 17-8 lead going into the second quarter behind a strong offensive quarter from sophomore Keion Brooks Jr. Brooks was looking for his shot all night long. The second quarter offered a little bit more scoring as JJ Foster hit a few threes in the second quarter. Although Luers put up a fight, the score was 29-22 at the half in favor of the Legends.
Jaylen Butz came out in the second half and immediately made his presence felt. Butz scored on the first possession out of the half with a two-handed flush along the baseline and followed up with an and-one layup the following possession. Brooks Jr. continued to pitch in on the offensive end and North Side was up 53-29 going into the final quarter. Their defense held Bishop Luers to 7 third quarter points while they managed to score 24.
The 4th was nothing like the 3rd as Luers won the quarter 25-17 because North Side began to sit all of their starters and the Knights kept theirs in. Butz finished with an impressive 18 points, 19 rebounds, 8 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block in the 70-54 win. Brooks Jr. also pitched in 27 points and 9 rebounds.
#1 North Side made it out of the semi-final round to face #2 Homestead tomorrow @ 8:15 p.m. at Wayne High School in the Championship Game of the SAC Tournament.
FW Snider at FW Homestead
Final Score: Snider 59 – Homestead 64
In the second semi-final matchup of the night, #2 Homestead faced off with #3 Snider in a packed house. Early on, things were really going Snider’s way behind two threes from senior guard Jordan Gorman. Ferguson was struggling to find openings on the offensive end and the Panthers lead 15-7 after the first. Heading into the second quarter, Ferguson was able to get himself involved by getting to the free throw line. Ferguson lead the Spartans with 10 points heading into the half as they outscored Snider 22-4 in the second quarter. Homestead was up 29-19 at half.
Coming out in the third, Malik Williams showed why he is in the running for Mr. Basketball. Williams came out with a vengeance and helped Snider get back into the ball game. Snider outscored Homestead 23-17. Jack Ferguson was able to keep Homestead in front as he put on a show in the second half. Homestead lead 46-42.
Behind Ferguson’s greatness, Manges clutch shooting, and Durnell doing it all, Homestead was able to hold of Williams and the Panthers to win the ball game. Ferguson finished with a game high 29 points (5-5 3FG) and Manges pitched in a double-double performance with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Homestead went on to win, 64-59 over the second ranked Panthers. Malik Williams poured in 25 points, 17 rebounds, 9 blocks, 4 assists, and 2 steals. The near triple-double wasn’t enough to advance to the Championship game of the SAC Tournament.
#2 Homestead made it out of the semi-final round to face #1 North Side tomorrow @ 8:15 p.m. at Wayne High School in the Championship Game of the SAC Tournament.
