Hollingsworth led Dunbar to a state championship win last season and decided to continue playing for AAU’s version of the Butler Bulldogs, MATT Mustangs, a phenomenal summer program not affiliated with any of the “shoe programs”. Hollingsworth then helped lead the Mustangs to the AAU national championship game, earning a 2nd place finish.
Just before the Kentucky high school basketball season started, Hollingsworth decided to attend Western Kentucky University to continue his basketball career. Prep Hoops Kentucky caught up with Taveion to talk more about his decision.
PHKY: What stood out to you about Western Kentucky University?
Taveion: “WKU stood out because they really have a good chance to win conference never year and I’m confident to when we all get together as a team that we can do it.”
PHKY: What other schools were recruiting you?
Taveion: “Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, UAB, Murray State, and Wright State. I had 14 offers overall.”
PHKY: How do you feel you’ll be able to contribute at Western Kentucky going into your freshman season?
Taveion: “I want to have an opportunity to start at the point and have the ball in my hands.”
PHKY: Have you thought about what you plan on studying at Western Kentucky?
Taveion: “Sport Management”
PHKY: This is your senior season at Dunabar. What are you goals and expectations before heading off to Western Kentucky?
Taveion: “My expectation this year is to have an opportunity to win Mr. Basketball and hopefully make it back to Rupp Arena for the state tournament. It’ll hard but we’ll work hard to get there.”
