The Basketball Interview: Nana Akenten
In our series The Basketball Interview we talk with one of the top players in the state of Illinois about a variety of topics both on and off the court. Today’s interview is with Bolingbrook 2017 small forward and Nebraska commit Nana Akenten.
What is your favorite opposing gym to play in?
It is between Homewood Flossmoor and Joliet West. HF because we have a rivalry with them. Joliet West because they have great basketball fans so the atmosphere is always great.
Who is the best player you have played against?
I would go with Prentiss Nixon. He has that killer mentality. I have never seen that in anybody. He goes after it every day.
Who is your favorite player to play against?
Honestly probably Trevor Ross. He pushes me every day in practice to get better. We are always going at it in practice.
Which is your favorite social media?
Twitter. That is where everybody is at. You keep up with the news and stuff.
What was your favorite part of the recruiting process?
Relationships with all the coaches and schools. Being able to go to each school and learn about them.
What was your least favorite part of the recruiting process?
All the coaches contacting you at once. It is overwhelming sometimes.
High School or Grassroots Circuit?
High School because you get more of a fan base. It is a lot more fun. It is longer season. You can develop a relationship with your peers.
Who is your favorite NBA Player?
Jimmy Butler. Just because of his story. He was never really blessed with anything. I kind of see myself in him. He came up from nothing.
What team not on your schedule would you want to play?
Curie because they are number one in the state.
Nike, Under Armour, or Adidas?
Nike. I have always been surrounded by Nike.
