Teams: Blackford, Delta, Hamilton Heights, Marion, Tipton, Yorktown
Last Year: Marion won the sectional in an overtime thriller over Tipton. It was smooth sailing for Tipton to get to the championship but Marion struggled a bit with Hamilton Heights. Yorktown who finished the year 3-20 upset Delta who finished the year 14-10 after being beat in the regular season 55-25. Marion won sectionals and then took home the state title.
Contenders For 2016-17: This one could be interesting with Hamilton Heights returning the bulk of their scoring along with a good group of seniors. Marion lost some key players as did Tipton. I think Hamilton Heights will take the crown this year but they are going to have to play as a team this year to overcome Marion and Tipton but at this point, it’s any of these three teams to take.
Player To Watch: Marion has their leading scorer from last year returning in Tim Leavell. The senior will look to improve his 18.2 PPG average from last year and the success of Marion will ride on his shoulders. Leavell will have to have a big year and could score close to 22-23 a game. Sterling Weatherford for Hamilton Heights will also be prepped for a big year and will be the glue for them if they want to make it to regionals.
