Just about every time we talked to Minnesota Fury 16U coach Ben Wilde about his team this past spring and summer Coach Wilde spoke very highlight of Jones. Michael had a 16U all state level AAU year and now he’s an upperclassmen getting ready for his junior year with the Royals.
Right now Jones is playing wideout for the Royals and he’s caught three touchdown passes. He’s also getting in the gym as he joins Jeremiah Coddon and Jake West as three of the top four returning players from a 24-4 team.
“I’m just getting back into the gym after football season, coming in before school to use our shooting machine and get back into a rhythm,” said Jones about his junior basketball year preparation.”
Michael has big goals for this upcoming year.
“Individually I’d like to shoot 50/40/90 (fg%, 3pt%, ft%) and I need improve my assists rebounds per game to help our team,” said Jones. “And as a team we’d like to win 20 games, win our conference, and win our section.
Michael scored between 11-12 a game last year and feels big things are coming for the Royals.
“We’ve all developed individually over the off-season with AAU lifting and playing other sports. We are more mature and poised than last season. This year we’re on the map and we’ve got something to prove. Hopefully we can feed off that.”
Jones is being recruited by a lot more college programs that people realized, us at NHR included. His growth physically and his production in the summer months has many schools calling.
“Augustana, Nebraska-Kearney, Newman, Winona State, and St. Cloud State are showing interest,” Jones said. “I visited Augustana this weekend.”
