The 6-foot-1 point guard has been invited to games to three area high-major schools for his prowess on the hardwood.
“I have interest from West Virginia, Ohio State, Cincinnati and that’s it, that’s who I got. I talked on the phone to some coaches and I went to some football and basketball games,” said Gordon.
“But I’m getting recruited for football and basketball.”
A quarterback on the gridiron, Gordon is seeing some high-major interest for football too.
“I take football just as serious as basketball,” he said.
Gordon is hoping the mild D1 interest turns into more serious recruitment over the next 12 months.
“I’m looking for more colleges to actually come out and see me and how I play. And for me to show them that I’m good enough to play high-major D1, whether it be football or basketball,” he said. “I want to get myself out there and get my recruitment better than it is now.”
On the hardwood, Gordon is known for his ability to get into the lane. But he’s been working to diversify his skill-set of late.
“My strengths are mostly driving to the basket and dishing off. I like to get my assists up, it doesn’t bother me not to score the ball,” said Gordon, Ohio’s 10th-ranked 2019.
“I’ve been working on my jump-shot all summer, on my 3-point and my midrange. Last year I wasn’t a good shooter at all, but this year I’m improved and ready to shoot it.”
Last season Gordon started with the Yellowjackets, and this season his goal is to put the basketball program on the map.
“Coaches expect me to be more of a leader this year compared to last year when I was a freshman. And I started last year, so me starting this year won’t be different, but a big difference will be me scoring the ball more because we lost some key guys from last year,” said Gordon.
“I just want to put Sidney High on the map, and let people know that we are a good basketball team and that we will be for the next few years.”
