Jasion Shade, 6’1 G, Hoover (2017)
Got the start today for the Huskies and made the most of it, a wiry and athletic speedster, he scored eight points in the Huskies’ win over Ames.
Eric Steyer, 6’3 SG, Ames (2017)
Had a smooth stroke from deep and hit consecutive contested triples, nice length and decent size are paired well with his fluid jumper.
Carter Bachman, 6’6 PF, Ankeny Centennial (2018)
A big-bodied post who is tough and can step out and hit a mid-range J. He caught our eye at the Top 250 Expo, and agin was a standout today.
Cade Moritz, 6’7 PF, Norwalk (2018)
Hit the first points of the game for the ‘Riders with a baseline 16-footer. But really made his presence felt on the defensive end, where he went toe-to-toe with Charley Crowley and Blake Brinkmeyer of Valley.
Carter Frey, 5’10 G, Valley (2018)
Came off the bench and gave the Tigers a spark by hitting back-to-back 3s, he’s part of a stable of guards that will help fill the void left by Turner Scott.
Charley Crowley, 6’7 PF, Valley (2017)
We’ve seen Crowley do a lot of things with his skill-set over the past two seasons, but his free-throw line crossover then converted jumper was one of the more impressive. He’ll be a stud this season for Valley.
Drew Johnson, 5’11, G, Waukee (2017)
Precision shooting and some plus-athleticism make this veteran guard one of the more difficult to contain in the CIML. He’ll be the catalyst for this Warriors squad this winter.
Jacob Rau, 6’7 C, Waukee (2017)
He didn’t do much on the offensive end, but he was getting high to snare rebounds and really used his body well to be disruptive defensively. The offense will be there for Rau; he’ll be an All-CIML caliber player.
Grant Garwood, 6’5 G/F, Urbandale (2019)
We’re really excited about this versatile sophomore. The inside/outside dual threat wing got some nice run last season as a freshman and could be among the top two scorers for the J-Hawks this season.
Dillon Carlson, 5’11 G, Ankeny (2019)
His dad got the head coaching job at Ankeny, and they moved to the northern suburb from MOC-Floyd Valley. Now, as a starter on the new-look Hawks squad, it seems Carlson will fit in nicely; a skilled guard with a nice jumper.
Jaden Kephart, 6′ G, Johnston (2017)
For a guy who we thought would be the fifth option on this loaded Johnston team, Kephart certainly made his mark. He scored 10 points in the Dragons’ win over Ankeny, and did it by hitting his 3s and being aggressive offensively.
Camden Vander Zwaag, 6’3 SG, Johnston (2018)
A true marksmen, Vander Zwaag is a good-sized sharpshooter who could lead the CIML in 3-point shooting this season. Just as important, he’s a smart and savvy guard who seldom makes mistakes.
