Marcus Barton of Aiken High School can flat out shoot the ball. This class of 2017 guard showed outstanding shot preparation while also moving well without the ball. His shot preparation also allowed him to get his shot off over bigger defenders despite checking in at around 5’8. Tough kid who hunts for his shot and is not afraid to put his nose in the action.
Sam Martin of Summit Country Day was the best all-around player on the court Saturday. While Martin did not score a lot offensively he ran the Summit offense like true floor general. , getting in the lane setting up his teammates for easy shots while also displaying craftiness for his own finishes in the lane. Defensively Martin harassed the Mariemont guards all game getting his hands on numerous balls for steals and deflections for easy buckets while showing good lateral quickness.
Four of the six teams in the CMAC (Cincinnati Metro Athletic Conference) will finish in the top 10 of their respective divisions this year and it would be five of the six if not for the injury bug hitting Shroder. This is by far the most athletic conference in the city and boast some of the best talent in the city. The race for the conference crown should be a fun one to watch as this will be the most competitive conference in Cincinnati. Prep Hoops conference predictions are as followed:
- Hughes
- Taft
- Woodward
- Aiken
- Shroder
- Western Hills
All-Preview Team
Marcus Barton C/O ’17 G-Aiken
Sam Martin C/O ’17 G-Summit Country Day
DJ Brewton C/O ’18 W-Mt. Healthy: Brewton put on the best offensive performance of the Preview. Showed the ability to shoot the ball off the dribble with range while using his length and athleticism in the open court to finish at the rim including two dunks. Showed a good ability to find the open teammate while also handling the ball running the Owls press break.
Darweshi Hunter C/O ’18 W-Princeton: Hunter was in attack mode for the short-handed Vikings from start to finish. Showed the ability to score in a variety of ways including pulling up in the lane to use his mid-range game. Competed on the defensive end as well showing good quickness. I expect Hunter to have a very solid season for the Vikings.
Terry Durham C/O ’18 F-Woodward: Proved to everyone that the buzz surrounding him is well deserved. Changed shots in the lane on the defensive while also doing a very good job on the defensive glass. Showed great athleticism getting his hands on passes when Woodward went to their trapping defensive and helping Woodward get there break started. Also showed the ability to run the floor while finishing three consecutive breaks with dunks to finish the game.
