Traditionally we had chosen ten healthy guys from each class with a little bit of focus on position but not too much. Some guys at every spot had to be chosen but our goal was bringing in the most talented ten healthy guys to compete.
The games were always fun including the 2017s beating the 2016s when they were freshmen and sophomores respectively. And of course it will be hard to forget seeing current NBA players Tyus Jones and Rashad Vaughn playing together along with JP Macura and Reid Travis.
What would this years game have looked like? Here’s my guess.
2017
Trae Berhow, Watertown-Mayer
Brad Davison, Maple Grove
Ishmael El-Amin, Hopkins
Myles Hanson, Chaska
Theo John, Champlin Park
Goanar Mar, DeLaSalle
Nathan Reuvers, Lakeville North
Jericho Sims, Cristo Rey
McKinley Wright, Champlin Park
Simon Wright, Hopkins
2018
Anthony Davis, Hopkins
Tre Jones, Apple Valley
Gabe Kalscheur, DeLaSalle
Owen King, Caledonia
Goodnews Kpegeol, North St. Paul
Shae Mitchell, Lakeville South
Daniel Oturo, Cretin-Derham Hall
Jarvis Thomas, Orono
Race Thompson, Armstrong
Adam Trapp, Esko
PG. You have Dayton bound McKinley Wright and Wisconsin bound Brad Davison, a top 200 and a top 100 ranked recruit respectively, against a five star lead guard in Tre Jones and SDSU committed Owen King. Tre can hold his own against most anyone but we are going with the seniors here.
I really like this match-up. Pepperdine bound Trae Berhow and Ball State committed Ishmael El-Amin against Ishmael’s high school teammate Anthony Davis and Minnesota offered Gabe Kalscheur. This could be the closet battle of the positions as Davis and Berhow would be excellent working defenders while Gabe and Ish are the shooters.
SF. The explosive Myles Hanson (Columbia committed) and three time state champion Goanar Mar (DeLaSalle) facing the rapidly growing Goodnews Kpegeol who lead North to state last year and Shae Mitchell of Lakeville South. Goanar would put these guys on lock down and Myles is always productive game to game. Experience has the edge.
PF. Four star recruit Race Thompson and multi-offered high major talent Jarvis Thomas against Elon committed Simon Wright and top 100 recruit Nathan Reuvers who is headed to Wisconsin. Right here you see the size advantage of the senior group with Reuvers playing the four. Thompson is a mismatch for anybody but if anybody has a chance to slow him down after a massive number summer it’s the state’s best frontcourt defender Simon Wright.
C. Adam Trapp and his high major offered 7-foot-2 size and bigger wingspan is inside along with top 100 talent Daniel Outro who is every growing in every way. They will face Marquette bound Theo John and nationally top 50 ranked Jericho Sims who is going to Texas. This would be fun with good talent and I don’t think there is a big edge either way.
Result. The 2017s won every class game they played and they would win again. With that said, if they came back from college and played in the summer of say….2020, I wonder what that would look like?
