Conference Commentary
State Contender: DeLaSalle
The Islanders lose a starter and a role player, bring back two of the state’s best in Goanar and Gabe, and have several young players that are going to be much improved. They are the heavy favorite to win state again.
On the Verge of Top Ten: St. Croix Lutheran, Brooklyn Center, Columbia Heights, St. Anthony
St. Anthony and Columbia Heights are teams that could very well be ranked this year in Class AAA, St. Croix Lutheran and Brooklyn Center have a chance to be ranked in Class AA. St. Anthony brings back a lot from a 19 win team while the Crusaders lost much of their scoring but they have talent that will step into the place of graduated players. Heights has Will Braziel back and some very talented juniors while BC brings back most of their line-up that finished the season.
In-Between: Holy Angels, Fridley, St. Agnes
Holy Angels is interesting. They have a nice big in Sam Boehne and a shooter ready to breakout in Mazurek but a new coach again. Fridley lost a lot but Jerome Cunningham is eligible after his transfer and he joins with Tirik Reeves to try and get the Tigers to .500. St. Agnes is now coached by Chris Hopkins and they will be led by a nice junior in Gary Smith.
Rebuilding: Concordia Academy
The Beacons won three games last year and graduated their best three guys. Tough formula going into the year.
