Top Big Man | Tyrese Samuel (Riverdale Baptist ’18)
6-foot-9 Montreal native Tyrese Samuel impressed in a variety of areas on both ends of the court. Samuel is a prolific rim protector who shrewdly uses his length and athleticism. A fluid athlete in the open floor, Samuel demonstrated craftiness and confidence with the ball in his hands. Samuel is clearly still growing into his body and continuing to add strength and skill, but he’s definitely a name to track moving forward.
Top Combo Guard | Markos Eyob (Robinson ’17)
Perhaps one of the most improved players in the Northern Region, Markos Eyob has added a considerable amount of bulk since last season. Eyob did a nice job using his improved strength to help him create space in traffic. Eyob continued to demonstrate efficiency with his jumper both from the catch and off the dribble, and also consistently looked to set up his teammates.
Top Wing | Cyril Ogbuagu (Riverdale Baptist ’17)
Cyril Ogbuagu made his impact felt all over the floor. A strong, broad-shouldered wing with a high motor, Ogbuagu was a force on the offensive and defensive glass. He showcased the ability to consistently connect from three off the pick and pop. Ogbuagu is a strong finisher in traffic who seeks and absorbs contact.
Top Scoring Guard | Deion Hammond (Riverdale Baptist ’18)
Monmouth commit Deion Hammond put on an absolute show, as he played above the rim on both ends. Hammond hit a number of three point field goals from the catch. From there, he was able to consistently set up his man off the bounce with head fakes and attack the basket with aggression.
Top 3 Point Shooter | Matias Prock (McLean ’19)
One of the most underrated aspects of Matias Prock‘s game has been his ability to consistently keep defenses off balance with his perimeter jump shot. Prock is a sniper from the catch, where demonstrates very good range and form.
Top Distributor | Donovann Toatley (Riverdale Baptist ’18)
Donovann Toatley was simply electric with the ball in his hands today. The dynamic playmaker was impossible to stay in front of, as he used a flurry of hesitations and dribble moves along with his quickness to keep defenders guessing. From there, Toatley was able to create for open teammates by dishing out a variety of pinpoint passes.
Top Pest | Daryl Mackey Jr. (West Potomac ’19)
One thing that stood out about Daryl Mackey today was the effort he gave while he was on the court. Mackey came up with several hustle plays: blocks, steals, deflections which led to opportunities in transition for his team. Mackey exhibited high level athleticism, a relentless motor, and a fearless demeanor.
