Teams: Greensburg, Franklin County, Madison, Rushville, Lawrenceburg, Batesville, South Dearborn
Last Season: A few years back, this used to be one of the best Sectionals in the state with Greensburg, Rushville, and Batesville all very strong. Now, they are starting to build things back up and last season they had four teams in double figures and Greensburg found a way to get past a strong Madison team to take the Sectional Championship. They ultimately fell to Silver Creek but a 16-win season is pretty good for a team filled with young players.
Contenders for 2016-17: This season, Greensburg should be about the only top team from last year that could struggle a bit although their freshman class could see a lot of time and give them a quick boost. Madison could still compete at the top but missing Reece Dryden and Adida Ikongshul will hurt. Franklin County returns quite a few top pieces and Rushville will see a completely new look after Jaret Sons and Alex Yurack leave due to graduation. Lawrenceburg loses essentially no one and even gains a 6’8 freshman that could give them a boost in the low post right away. Look for Madison, Lawrenceburg, and Madison to be really good with Greensburg and Batesville as outside shots if their younger players are able to impact games early in the season.
Players to Watch: The guy to watch in this Sectional is 6’0 guard Jordan Houze of Lawrenceburg. This team returns a lot including Houze, their 16.1 point per game scorer. He’s the biggest piece for any team returning and with Lawrenceburg as setup as they can be for success, Houze is going to be the best player on the best team.
