Berry split his time this spring and summer with Ohio Nova and with Ohio Basketball Club, and should find himself well-prepared for his upcoming junior season with the Jaguars.
“This was my first season playing in adidas Gauntlet. And my first tournament going in there I didn’t have enough confidence,” said Berry. “But throughout the season my confidence starting going up, and I started being more consistent as a role player”
Though he did not pick up any offers during his 16U season, the good-sized forward was able to generate some initial interest from a variety of programs.
“During the first tournament of the Gauntlet my coach told me Purdue was interested, but I haven’t heard from them much directly. Ashland University and Toledo are probably the top two schools that talk to me,” said Berry, who went into more detail about the current state of his recruitment.
“I’m slowly thinking about it, just taking it day-by-day. But I’m mostly just focusing on myself, and not my recruitment as much. Towards senior year when I start taking visits and everything I’ll think about it more. For right now I’m just working on my craft, and trying to be the best player I can.”
This upcoming season will be Berry’s third as a starting forward with the Jaguars, and his job it to not only produce, but to lead, and be an extension of the coach on the floor.
“Mainly what I focus on is being a team player, and always the one who brings a calming presence on the floor. I’m not a score-first type player, but I can score when needed. My jumper is a strength of mine, from mid-range especially,” said Berry.
“I’m confident in myself and my team, and my role is that I’ll be a captain. I’m going to step up for all the kids on my team, and I’ll help when I’m needed. I feel like I’m a floor general, and a coach on the floor.”
