Continue ReadingWhitney Young 2017 shooting guard Lucas Williamson is one of the top available uncommitted prospects in the state. Williamson is a versatile wing that can shoot, pass, and defend. He can play and guard multiple positions. Plays well within a team concept. We caught up with the Whitney Young standout to find out where things stand with his recruitment.
“I’m getting the most attention from NIU and Hofstra.”
He has taken offical visits to both programs. He first broke down Northern Illinois.
“I liked NIU. I was really surprised how big the campus was. Really love the coaching staff there and the players are cool. I feel like I could fit in with the guys. I was very impressed with their new facilities and weight room and dorm life. I feel really good about NIU.”
What were his impressions of Hofsta?
“I like Hofstra’s coaching staff too. On staff they have former NBA player Speedy Claxton which is a big plus. The guys there are super funny and relatable. The school itself is a very good one especially for one of the majors I’m thinking about. Their practice facility is stunning and I also like they are one hour away from my second favorite city in New York.”
He says those two are the most aggressive schools recruiting him at this point. Any other schools still in the mix?
“UIC, Green Bay, and Incarnate Word.”
Williamson tells us he does not know yet whether he will sign in the early signing period in November yet. He spoke about key factors in choosing a school.
“A key factor in picking a school is going to a place where I can grow as a man and a basketball player the most. Somewhere where the coaches are committed to my improvement and I have faith in them and feel supported by them. Also smaller things such as dorm life and student life are also small details that can add up to be a big difference. I also have to trust in myself that I’m making the best decision for me.”
Williamson ran with Meanstreets in the Nike EYBL on the grassroots circuit. He is the #22 overall player in 2017 and #5 shooting guard in the class.
