Continue ReadingIn his first full season with the Wakefield last year, Halil Parks was an integral factor for Head Coach Tony Bentley with his ability consistently to stretch the floor. Parks, who averaged just under 13 points per game as a junior, connected on a team-high 55 threes for the 25-2 Warriors.
“I would say I’m a very nice combo guard. I can also dribble the ball well so I can play the one for a while,” Parks began. “I mainly try to get my teammates involved, but when it’s time to be aggressive I know when to step up and come up with a bucket. Whether it’s in a crunch situation or just an easy score.”
Since last year, Parks has worked hard to improve various aspects of his game. Parks is expected to build upon his consistently high rate of production as a senior.
“Last year i was known for taking a lotta threes being a sharpshooter,” said Parks. “Now this year, everybody knows I’m a sharpshooter so now they’re expecting me to continuously shoot. But now I’ve just been working on driving to the basket and being more aggressive off the dribble.”
Parks admittedly needs to continue to improve defensively. He is continuing to work hard in that aspect, as lateral quickness is one of the main things he’s worked to improve since last season. What’s one thing Parks does that most people don’t realize?
“I pray before my games. I thank God for putting me in a situation where I can continuously play games,” Parks replied. “I’m healthy. And I have the ability to perform in front of whoever s watching me.”
Parks took a recent unofficial visit to Wheeling Jesuit University, a Division Two program in West Virginia. What can schools who are recruiting Parks expect him to bring to a program at the next level?
“Just a player with a high motor. A good work ethic as well. I’m always down to be in the gym. Always in the gym before everybody else. Always getting up shots,” Parks stated. “Because I know when I’m not in the gym someone else is in the gym. so I just try to be one step ahead of my competitors or my teammates. I’m always trying to be one step above them and be a leader.”
