Recruiting Report: Dylan Swingle (2018)
Already with four offers to his name, Bainbridge Paint Valley’s 6-foot-11 center Dylan Swingle is quickly becoming one of 2018’s hottest commodities.
West Virginia, Akron, Bowling Green and George Washington have already offered the talented big-man.
“All those schools are great schools, and I love all of them,” said Swingle.
And several others have been in the mix and could be the next to extend a scholarship package.
“Other schools to show interest are Clemson, Northern Kentucky, Pitt, Ohio State, Ohio University, Belmont, and Dayton and Xavier are both really after me lately,” said Swingle, who mentioned one school he’s particularly high on right now.
“Akron has been down to a bunch of my open gyms and have been after me pretty hard, and I’m liking them a lot.”
He added: “I just want to go to a team and a place where I can best fit in with. With great teammates and a good coach. I definitely want a good coach.
Swingle did mention what his endgame is with hoops, and it doesn’t stop after college.
“Ultimately my goal is to make the NBA. But my mind-frame right now is to go to college, graduate, and get ready for my future,” he said. “And if I work hard enough hopefully the NBA would come along, but my goal is definitely to graduate from college.”
Already with a mix of low, mid and high-major offers, Swingle mentioned to PHOH that the fit of the school is more important than the level.
“I don’t think it really matters to me. I feel like if I fit in better with a mid-major school versus a high-major school I’d choose the mid-major,” said Swingle. “But I really, really like West Virginia and Akron right now.”
A skilled big, with a polished skill-set and tremendous size, it’s no wonder Swingle is so highly regarded by college coaches.
“I feel like if I get the ball in the post I’m definitely strong enough to back kids down. And I feel like I rely on my jump-hook a lot, and I can hit that,” said Swingle. “And if I am double-teamed, I feel like my passing skills are really good, and then I feel like I have a good jump-shot as well.”
He was able to gain invaluable experience and had some major success this past spring and summer while playing in the EYBL with All Ohio Red. He and his guys won the Peach Jam in July.
“I feel like every player on that team I wish I could have them as teammates in college,” said Swingle. “They were the best teammates I’ve ever had, I get along with them well and I love all of them.”
Now he heads into his junior season with the Bearcats. As a sophomore he was tremendous while pouring in 18 points and snaring 13 rebounds per game.
“One of my personal goals this season is to help us be the best team we can, we’re always underdogs in our conference, and I want to help our team exceed people’s expectations,” said Swingle.
“We have a bunch of seniors this year and we only lost one key player, so I think we’ll be better this year and should be picked to finish at the top of our league.”
