New Life Academy is setting goals of reaching the state tournament this upcoming season. For the Eagles to get to that, they’ll need to replace the production of two all-conference guards. Adam Busch is a guy who will be asked to step up in a big way.

Busch spent the spring and summer playing grassroots with Twin Cities Finest where he showcased his ability to run a team effectively. The 6-foot-1 point guard excelled as a distributor and defender while running the show and his quality play caused coaches to take notice.

Busch also went to the Top 250 Expo Showcase event in September and in a setting where chaos is a common theme, he showed how good he can be at controlling the floor and the pace of play.

“I went to the Top 250 Expo event and there were a lot of colleges there that liked the way I played,” said Busch. “Minot State; their head coach wasn’t there but they showed some interest. A couple other schools from there as well.”

Busch is drawing interest from a number of schools in the Midwest and has the potential to play Division II, Division III, NAIA or NJCAA.

Busch is a multi-sport star at New Life Academy and might have the opportunity to play college football, basketball or baseball. Busch said he wants to play basketball at the next level.

New Life Academy has high expectations for this upcoming basketball season. The Eagles won 24 games and advanced to the subsection final game a year ago and are eyeing a state tournament berth. A few things will have to go right — like getting by Minnehaha — and guys like Busch will have to step up.

“I can’t wait,” said Busch. “We lost a couple talented seniors so I kind of look at it like it’s my time to lead the team. We’ve got nine seniors so we’ve got a lot of depth and we’ve played together for a long time. I think this could be a special season.”
