In a division chock-full of elite talent, Wilson narrowly gets the nod for this honor. He’s Iowa’s 6th-ranked 2017, and though it looks like he may take the JuCo route, he’ll likely become a Division I forward after. An extremely bouncy post with an uncanny ability to score around the rim, Wilson will try and lead the Huskies back to the state tournament for a third straight season.
First Team
2017 Douglas Wilson, 6’6 PF, Des Moines Hoover (15.3 PPG, 55 FG%, 2.7 BPG, 9.8 RPG)
One of the highest risers in the state, Wilson has been a starting forward on consecutive state tournament qualifiers. Is this the year he takes the Huskies all the way?
2017 Jal Bijiek, 6’7 SF, Des Moines North (14.1 PPG, 4.6 BPG, 8.8 RPG)
Division I prospect who led the state in blocks last season, and can step out and hit a deep ball too – a very dangerous wing.
2019 Tyreke Locure, 5’10 PG, Des Moines North (13.3 PPG, 7.3 APG, 3.5 SPG, 4.0 RPG)
Iowa’s 2nd-ranked 2019, Locure led the state in steals and assists last season, and has established himself as one of the Midwest’s best young point guards.
2018 Cade Moritz, 6’7 C, Des Moines Roosevelt (*at Norwalk; 5.4 PPG, 69 FG%, 3.4 PPG)
After putting up pedestrian numbers at Norwalk as a sophomore, Moritz spent his summer playing with his new Roosevelt squad, and was absolutely sensational.
2019 Kenny Quinn, 5’9 PG, Des Moines Hoover (4.8 PPG, 4.5 APG, 1.7 SPG)
He’s renowned for being one of the best and most aggressive defenders in the state, and this year he’s focuses on being a force offensively too.
