Village will begin the season next week with their annual Village Tip Off Tourney on November 11-12, when the Knights take the floor they will being the tall task of defending their state championship. They return just about all their starters and have picked key transfers in Guard Dakari Johnson and Forward Omari Wilson, however there is a player returning that we feel can help Village in a huge way this year. Jarvez Ellis is a pretty quiet young man, you won’t see him doing a lot of talking on or off the court but his talent to play this game at a high level is clear without a doubt. Last season he had multiple games where he knocked down a high amount of treys and we expect the same this season as well as him bringing more things to the squad.
What makes him special?
First and foremost he is a knock down shooter, especially off the catch which allows him to fit into the system at Village very well, he moves fairly well without the ball and releases his shot at the top of his leap. The majority of his damage was done from three point land last year but he also has the ability to knock down the midrange shot using a shot fake or a one dribble pull up. What impressed me most this summer when I watched him play was his defense, last year it seemed as if he took some plays off on that end of the floor. This summer he locked in on a regular basis using his wingspan to make things difficult for opponents, if he can do this on a consistent basis he will make Village a much more dangerous squad. As of now his recruitment has been quiet but D2 schools should be keeping a close eye on him, he still has some work to do to fully reach his potential but he’s got the talent and is a great kid/student.
