One of my good friends, Nathan Faulk is the head coach at Michael Jordan’s alma mater Laney High School in beautiful Wilmington, North Carolina.
Nathan is a great guy with a excellent mind for basketball and he has helped countless kids get their college tuition paid for by helping them succeed on the basketball court. He also coaches the Flight 22 AAU basketball program, one of the top programs in the south.
Faulk started the Flight 22 program in 2001 fresh out of college from UNC-Wilmington, he had a 2006 lottery pick on that team named Cedric Simmons who later went to North Carolina State University and was drafted by New Orleans Hornets. Flight 22 began as the Wilmington Warriors in 2001 but changed our name and brand to Flight 22 in 2007 in honor of Cedric Simmons who wore number 22.
With Simmons being drafted and the most recognizable face for the program, Faulk changed the color to match the New Orleans Hornets, at that time who Cedric played for.
Faulk has coached numerous players and a big number of them have reached their dream of playing college basketball and a handful have made NBA and overseas rosters. Notable alums include Cedric Simmons NCSU, Elijah Wilson CCU, Stilman White UNC, Rian Holland Mercer, Kris Clark Utah State, DJ Mason Campbell, Michael Moore Mt Olive, Joseph Harris CCU. One of his former Flight players Ryan Quigley is a punter for the Arizona Cardinals.
Flight 22 has 10 current teams in The program aging 15-18 and have began franchising out the brand with teams in Tennessee and New York. We are excited about the debut of Flight 22 Tennessee formerly Tenn Trotters this season.
Two of his current players are on their way to that dream. Duane Moss has 14 D1 offers currently and Rob Peterson has 3 D1 offers in part by playing with Faulk’s Flight 22 program who are sponsored by Under Armour and played in the Under Armour Finals last season.
At Laney High School, Faulk has a pretty recognizable sponsor, The Jordan Brand has been and is a wonderful assest to the school and basketball program. “We have have a great relationship with the brand as they have partnered with us in our Summer basketball event Fred Lynch Invitational and will have a presence and DNA on our new gym opening fall of 2017.”
