Khyrie Temple – Phoebus High School
The young forward was a work horse for the Phantoms playing with high energy on both ends of the court. On numerous defensive possessions Khryie hawked down and altered or blocked what looked to be easy lay-ups. He maintained his tenacity throughout the game by grabbing missed shots out of the air and securing the board. On the other side of the ball, he displayed explosive athleticism. On one particular fast break, he threw down a thunderous dunk that gave us a glimpse of the potential he has to be a dynamic finisher.
Darien Allison- I.C Norcom High School
The PG showed impressive poise and play making ability as he continued to ease into his new role as floor general for the Greyhounds. A crafty ball handler, Allison darted into the lane often and went right at the opposing bigs. This collapsed the defense to open up high percentage looks for the perimeter shooters. Most impressive, was his ability to cash in on transition opportunities. By quickly getting to the middle of the floor, he found the streaking wings or dribbled into a nearly automatic free throw line jumper.
Tadas Nausedas – Virginia Academy
Whether it was coming off screens, pulling up off the bounce, or stopping and popping in transition, Nausedas knocked it down. The 6’4 wing found his rhythm early in the day and kept impressing with his exhibition of a confident and reliable jumper. The lengthy forward proved he could contribute on the defensive end as well by applying body to body pressure. He also played the angles well to consistently cut off potential drives to the rim.
Chester Makoi – Williamsburg Christian Academy
With a soft touch and deliberate foot work, Makoi demonstrated huge promise as a back to the basket scoring threat. At times, he looked as though he just came from a big man skills camp as he showed off sound fundamentals and an array of post moves. During one series, he attacked the defender with a drop step to the baseline for a baby hook. On his next touch, he showed his ability to counter with a ball fake and an up and under to the middle. By making the most of his opportunities and working hard to play within the offense, the big man proved he can be one the Eagles most impactful players in the upcoming season.
Josh Talbert – Kellam High School
Talbert’s smart play fit right in with the well-oiled machine that is Kellam’s offense. Throughout the day, he found a nice balance between being aggressive and not forcing bad shots. He stood out with a skill set that was especially impressive for a player that has yet to play his first regular season high school game. Constantly moving off the ball, he looked most comfortable stepping into jumpers from wing. However, he had no problem attacking the basket when overplayed.
