Top 250 Expo: Sophomore Standouts
The sophomores at last weekend’s Minneapolis Top 250 Expo showed very well and we still have several more that we would like to talk about.
There are several names we’ve discussed including Khari Broadway of Park Center, Courtney Brown of East Ridge, Nathan Brusseau of New Prague, Riley Burger of Minnetonka, Eli Campbell of Minneapolis North, Tommy Chatman of Park Center, JD Cowan of Eden Prairie, Ethan Matzke of Spring Grove, Sam Nissen of Prior Lake, Cameron Vaughn of Park Center, and Dane Zimmer of Hopkins.
Brandon Adelman (6-0, PG, New London-Spicer). One of the guys that kids were happy to be on the team with. Brandon always seems to get good looks for teammates.
Camden Arndt (6-2, SG, Morris Area). Already had a strongly built frame that moves very well laterally. Played in a deep stance all day and was as good defensively as he was on offense.
Antonio Brown (6-0, SG, Cass Lake-Bena). One of the most productive players in the open floor that we saw all weekend. Brown seemed to make the right play on every break he was a part of.
KreSean Greer (5-10, PG, DeLaSalle). One of the most intense players at the camp. Played with the characteristics of a DeLaSalle player on defense with a relentless approach. Finished at a high rate in the open floor.
Jordan Hassing (6-3, SF, JCC). Jackson has the size, mobility, skill, and feel for the game at this point that makes us think he will be the next guy leading JCC into the future. Had a really productive day.
Josh Hodges (6-4, F, Mpls Henry). A long striding athlete that covers a lot of ground with few steps and can explode quickly off his feet to finish or collect. A lot of potential in his long frame.
Jackson Jangula (5-9, PG, St. Cloud Cathedral). Some of the nastiest handles I’ve seen in a long time. This young man could really play early for the Crusaders.
Jake Kettner (6-2, SG, MN Valley Lutheran). Highly intelligent basketball player who makes the right reads, cuts, and everything else. Also a good shooter with range that could carry MVL into a nice three years.
Larontae Mormant (6-7, C, Bloomington Kennedy). Large frame who can not be moved around the basket. Tough to get around him position wise and he sets a great screen.
Logan Nagorski (6-4, PF, Big Lake). Showed us some Kevin McHale post moves, was really good in the pick and roll both catching on the roll to the rim to finish and fading to hit jumpers. Nice pull-up jumper to him as well.
Isaiah Robinson (5-11, PG, Simley). There is some smoothness to him, plays kind of like Tyrell Terry only not to that level of consistency yet. Defended really hard and was able to drop in shots with a soft touch.
Rashard Rollins (5-9, PG, Mpls Henry). One of the most consistently productive players at the event Rollins attacked the basket with strong aggression.
Montrell Stokes (5-6, PG, Osseo). Stokes used a hesitation to blow by guys on a regular basis. Used a deep crossover to get past the first defender regularly and did it with either hand. Great recognition of the initial defender and how to attack him.
Riley Van Buskirk (5-11, SG, Centennial). Definitely one of the best shooters at the event. Very confident, when Riley had space he got his feet set and nailed shots at a high rate.
Jack Thompson (6-0, SG, St. Thomas). One of the hardest workers and toughest kids at the event. Thompson shot the ball cleanly at a high percentage so he can score too but loved him defensively.
Jakiyka Walker (6-1, SG, Eden Prairie). Has a lot of potential to be a playmaker and scorer. Good athlete who attacked and scored with some explosion plus he hit from range too. Very raw but if he learns he could be excellent.
Simon Werven (6-4, PF, Rochester JM). A nice big guy for JM with decent size and mobility. Seemed comfortable scoring with a short jumper or his back to the basket. Good rebounding effort. Should play well with Matthew Hurt in the future years.
