A year ago the 6-foot-0 167 pound point guard gave his team a healthy ten points, five boards, and five assists a game. Leighton spent his summer getting ready for his final year of high school athletics.
“I had a good summer of training and getting ready for the upcoming seasons,” Mason said.
“I really worked hard in the weight room and getting some shots up at our camps and attending our teams camps that helped us get into game mode and build good team chemistry.”
Leighton, center Austin Lohsandt, and guard Riley Janke are the lead seniors. The junior class has Jaxon and Jaden Janke as well as Aaron Fiegen at the four spot.
“The overall goal is to win the championship at the end of the year,” Leighton said. “We are very talented, we just need to figure out our roles and work together as a team.”
There is no doubt this team is talented. They should be one of the better teams in Class A. They are definitely one of the better football teams. Right now the Bulldogs are undefeated and they’ve been blowing out teams.
Leighton, who plays split end and defensive back, is more of a football recruit than he is a basketball prospect although he’s pretty good with both. Football is where he’s hearing from schools.
“I’m hearing from Dakota State, Augustana, South Dakota, Dakota Wesleyan, and Northern State, all for football,” said Leighton.
Leighton has visited USD, DSU, and Augustana.
