Having a strong presence in the paint is a trait that only begins the description of Lony Francis’s game.
Lony Francis (2017) is a 6-foot-6 forward that continues to prove to be a household name in the Columbus high school basketball ranks. The Groveport-Madison senior is ranked No. 12 by 270hoops.com and is a talent that stands out above the rest because he has an excessive amount potential, making him an attractive prospect to college coaches.
Francis may be primarily a forward in high school, banging down low with the big guys, but the way he is able to take the rock coast to coast after snatching a rebound off the glass shows that if the time is put in, he can get his ball handling to the level of a guard.

Francis’s strengths all stem from the defense that he plays, and he is well aware of that skill he possesses. He tends to have the physical advantage against opponents when it comes to speed and strength, naturally boosting his defensive ability.
“I feel like I can do it all,” Francis said. “I can lock up on the perimeter, and lock up somebody in the post as well.”
Another reason why coaches should put Francis on their list is because he simply loves to win. He is the type of player that understands his role and will do what ever it takes to help his team come out on top.
Throughout this off-season, Francis has been spending majority of his time in the weight room, looking to become even more of a physical specimen on the hardwood.
As of right now, Francis’s recruiting has been revolved around the DII and DIII levels with Wittenberg University (DIII), Lake Erie (DII), Ashland University (DII), Concordia (DIII) and Alfred State College (DIII) being a handful of schools that have been showing the most interest in him.
Groveport-Madison finished 13-12 in 2015-2016 and fell in the district semi-final, but with all of the players they have returning along with Francis, head coach Ryan Grashel will have the opportunity to build of last year’s results.
“We have returners and we have some new guys coming in,” Francis said. “We should be pretty good this year.”
With only one more season left of high school ball, Francis will look to give it his all and bring Groveport-Madison deep into the post-season.
