Right now the Raiders are 2-2 on the football field with Jacob playing guard and defensive tackle and his brother Taylor playing along with him on the line as a sophomore.
It’s the latest in Jacob’s busy schedule of three sports played and working at home.
“I had a very busing summer being a three sport athlete and farm kid,” Hojer said. “I went to multiple team camps, Northern State post camp, and a SDSU satellite camp. Lots of open gyms and shoot-arounds as well.”
While football is the current focus Hojer is also coming of a seven points, six rebounds, and two blocks per game season around the basket. Those should be double-double numbers this winter as Jacob and his team want to bring home a trophy.
“Our goal this season is to win the district title,” Hojer said. “There are three very good teams with very talented players in our district. We really feel it’s obtainable. Being a team and playing like a team is huge for anyone.
“But from an Xs and Os standpoint, we need to keep playing good defense and really focus on moving the ball. We have eight guys who can score the ball. When we move the ball, everything is opened up. Shots, cuts, and back doors all open up when you move the ball efficiently.”
Hojer is the key piece in the middle on both ends.
“My top individual games as a junior was versus Wilmot with 12 points and eight boards and Howard when I had 5 blocks. I hold the program career block record going into my senior season with 53 total. I had 38 last season.”
Hojer will set the school record for blocks far and away from future Raider bigs and he will get around double-double numbers over the winter. That said, football is the future.
“Football, I’ve been recruited by Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, and Minnesota State-Moorhead.”
