The 6-foot-3 swingman put up huge numbers for a very good Tigers’ team last season, averaging about 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists.
Nevis returns all but one player this winter and with Chase leading the way, the Tigers have high expectations for 2016-17.
“We only lost one senior and we’ve got a lot of talent coming back so we should be very good,” said Chase.
Chase spent the spring and summer playing grassroots with the Minnesota Comets and Steve De Los Reyes, helping that team win 28 games. Chase played well and thanks to the exposure gained by the team’s success, he’s got a lot of options when it comes to playing basketball at the next level.
“It’s been going good,” Chase said of his recruitment. “Jamestown, Briar Cliff and Concordia College [Moorhead] have been recruiting me the hardest to this point. I’m thinking about letting the season play out and see where everything is at and make a decision. But for now I’ll go with the flow.”
Chase is a multifaceted offensive player, displaying the ability to not only shoot well from the outside but also put the ball on the floor and get to the lane. He’s got good length and uses it to his advantage on the boards and on the defensive end of the floor.
Chase said he wants to continue to get stronger and that added strength would help him defensively and make him more difficult to guard when he drives.
All of Chase’s skills are on display when he plays for Nevis and while he won’t be asked to carry a team when he does play in college, his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways makes him a valuable prospect. Nevis has high hopes this year and if the Tigers are going to do what they want to do, Chase will be a big part of it.
