Erickson scored 12.6 points per game with three assists and three boards. Chase has a lot of size up front as many are familiar with Collin Trottier and Gavin Moeller but Erickson handled much of the guard duty.
He also shot 65 percent from the foul line and around 40 percent from the field as the team’s major playmaker. Chase wasn’t on the AAU circuit but he played as much as anybody.
“My summer went pretty good playing in team camps and everything,” said Erickson. “A couple of things I did to get better was to get to the gym as much as I could.
“Another thing I did was getting in game reps, whether it was playing in different leagues, team camps, or just a pick up game at the gym.”
The Mustangs won 11 games a year ago but are expected to improve greatly on that total. Erickson will be joined in the backcourt by experienced guards Christian Kuntz, a sophomore, and fellow senior Josh Thiele.
Inside WF Sheyenne of course has Moeller and Trottier but also Kemal Hajric and Carter Bonnema. Add in senior wing Hayden Reynolds and you have eight players back that have played a lot of basketball.
“Our goal for this season is to do well in the regular season and make it to state,” said Erickson. “I think we need to come together more as a team. If we do that I think we will have a good chance of going to state.”
Unfortunately at this point Erickson hasn’t heard much from college coaches but his results last year speak for themselves and if area colleges aren’t ready to start talking than Chase is just going to have to prove them run. His numbers do show he is one of the better lead guards in the senior class.
