The gritty slasher — who says he prefers to play in the post versus on the wing — listed several schools who have reached out to him in some way.
“It’s a lot of colleges, like D2 and D3; Marietta, Lake Erie, Westminster, Mount Union is supposed to call my coach and talk about me, and several other JuCos are supposed to talk to my coach about me. Geneva has sent me a letter, Otterbein has too, and I’m setting up a visit to go to Ohio Northern later this month,” said McQueen who also mentioned Capital University and Wittenberg had called him.
Of those schools, McQueen was able to confidently narrow the list to three he feels are most actively pursuing him.
“Ohio Northern is one of the three schools that call me the most — they call here and there and check up on me and see how I’m doing. Marietta, I went up there for team camp and I like their college too. And Wittenberg, they call and express their interest and send me all types of stuff.”
A forward who prefers to bang down low rather than take his game outside, McQueen is a rare prospect who embraces the paint rather than shy away.
“I like playing on the block, and sometimes if the coach needs to play on the perimeter I will. But I don’t really like shooting the ball at all, everything with me is going to the rim and laying-up or dunking,” said McQueen, who did mention his handles are something he’s working to improve.
“I’ve been working on my handles, and dribbling small balls, big balls and all kinds of balls we have in the locker room that the guards use to train with.”
He added: “And I’ve been working on my free-throws. I had a college coach tell me my sophomore year that with my size I’ll be playing guard in college, and that I don’t necessarily need to shoot the ball a lot, but I’ll need to learn how to handle it.”
With his senior season at Warren JFK just three months away, McQueen laid out his goals and the outlook for this year’s team.
“My goal is to help my team out, and help my guys better themselves. I’ll bust them in practice just so they know what it’s like to go against a big. And that’s really my goal is to help them out,” he said.
“I think we’re going to go all out this season, we got our chemistry together, and we’re ready to go this year.”
