Continue ReadingFrederick, Maryland native Amir Harris is set to embark on his first season in the Baltimore Catholic League for St. Maria Goretti. The long guard has hit a recent growth spurt, gaining five inches over the past two years. Now a 6-foot-4 junior, Harris projects as the starting point guard for Head Coach Matt Miller and the Gaels this season.
Harris impressed last weekend at the DMVelite 80 with his versatility and playmaking ability. He describes himself as an impact player on both ends of the floor.
“I think I’m a long guard who can facilitate the floor rebound and play really good defense,” Harris stated. “I like to play how my coach requires me to play.”
Harris is a very good student who sports an impressive 3.8 GPA. He will be taking more challenging courses at a private school. On the court, Harris is focusing hard to improve his perimeter shooting along with other aspects of his game.
“I’ve been working on my jump shot. It’s coming along quickly,” said Harris. “Also working on my defense. I’ve been giving more effort at it.”
Since we last spoke to him earlier this year, Harris has landed his first scholarship offer from Mount Saint Mary’s, and carries interest from a bevy of other division one programs. The talented point guard is extremely confident in his ability to make a difference no matter what the situation is.
“I think I’m a clutch player. I can take over at the end of the game when it matters most,” Harris began. “My goals for the season are to win the BCL. Just become a better player and make my team better.”
