So, it wasn’t strange to see a lot of players make jumps in their game this summer with the competition level high. One such player, Evansville Harrison’s De’Ante Booker.
Booker got to run this summer under the Pocket City program and really progressed through the end of the season. He was a guy that was a standout at our Senior Showcase in June. Now, this fall, Booker is taking some time with the football team before jumping back on the court with Harrison this winter.
“Going pretty good,” Booker said of the fall. “Currently in football season. I just received a packet from Manchester. My Harrison basketball coaches have been giving my name out to coaches too, so we’ll have to see how that turns out.”
While he is in football season and having a good year to date, Booker says he is still open to both sports currently. Manchester is the one school that is really showing interest so far for basketball. Coach Good is keeping in touch and continuing to develop a relationship with him.
Booker has seen an uptick in his game over the last few months. Especially in June and July, you could see where his game could end up with some work.
“I feel like I played well whenever I got the opportunity,” Booker said of his summer with Pocket City. “Some games, my confidence would be low, due to low playing time. Both other than that I feel like I did alright once I got the opportunity. I had tons of fun with PCB squad over the years, that we became a tight family being with all of the players and coaches. It wasn’t always easy due to my role, but I had to accept it and I learned a lot throughout my time with PCB.”
“I feel like I’ve improved my athleticism mainly. Since the spring, I was able to jump higher and quicker off the ground to grab rebounds, quicker on my feet for defending and getting up the floor on fast breaks. Also, my jump shot, I’ve improved my jump shot consistency and range. Since the spring, I’ve been more comfortable shooting the three.”
This fall and winter will be big for Booker as he transitions back into basketball. If he can take the momentum he had at the end of AAU and run with it, he could be in for a rise in his stock.
