PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Expo: Steve’s Sleepers 2019-2020
Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo brought out some of the best players in the freshman and sophomore class in Illinois. With many already household names in the session I wanted to find some of the best unknown talents that were in the building. Here a list at the best under the radar player from this weekend’s showcase.
F Keeshawn Chambers (Solorio – 2019)
Keeshawn caught the attention of our PrepHoops staff with some pretty sick dunks in transition. He played with a continuous motor on both ends of the floor. Chambers was raw on the offensive end, but was pretty solid with his finishes around the rim. On defense he blocked several shots and came down with a ton of rebounds. Chambers is a player who shouldn’t fly under the radar much longer.
G/F Daniel Florey (St. Ignatius – 2020)
Florey started his day off with several attacks at the rim scoring through traffic and converting difficult shots. As a freshman Daniel isn’t intimidated by size even though he’s very thin. As the game progressed Florey showed some his finesse game and the ability to go to the block against smaller guys. It will be fun to see his progression over the next 4 years.
PG Dakoda Joachim (Joliet Central – 2020)
Dakoda was a player that was fun to watch at the showcase. He showed he has great vision on the court and willingness to get his teammates the ball in the right position to score. Joachim didn’t try any crazy dribbling combination or crossover he simply got to a spot and made plays which is something many coaches can appreciate. Joachim is a solid point guard now and I will like to see the growth in his game in a couple of years.
PG TJ Erving (Providence St. Mel – 2019)
Another small but effective PG that opened some eyes was TJ. He is the son of St. Mel coach Tim Erving. TJ can fill it up when he has the ball in his hands. The tiny guard got to the rim at will, he used his quickness and second speed to throw defenders off especially in transition. Many times he kept the defense on their heels by alternating between scoring or making the simple pass to teammates. Erving will become a player to know this season as he and his team are a year older and wiser.
G Rodney Clemons (Curie – 2019)
Rodney plays with a lot of confidence and swag. The Curie guard made several three pointers from NBA distance. Clemons has a good handle and is pretty athletic for his size he connected to two dunks while watching his game. Rodney knows he can impact a game at any time and he lets the opposing players know it. Look for Clemons to become one of Curie next star players in the near future.
