Prep Hoops Ohio Top 250 Expo: Top 10 Wingmen
Although majority of the talent seen at Sunday’s Top 250 Expo, at Pickerington North High School, was found at the point guard position, there was still a plethora of wings that turned heads. Here are the shooting guards and small forwards that showcased their defense, shooting, athleticism and more:
10.) Max Martz (2019) – 6’5 – Upper Arlington
Although I would include Martz more in the power forward category, the sophomore has a game that allows him to extend to the wing. His mid range jump shot and quickness lets him play the 3 if necessary.
9.) Bailey Francis (2019) – 6’4 – Liberty Union
Francis has the ability to play both wing positions, and with his the ball handling, he allows himself to help the point guard run the show. However, Liberty Union’s sophomore has too good of a shot to not be placed on the wing.
8.) Anthony Tyree (2017) – 6’4 – Grove City
The senior small forward plays hard and always attacks the basket with authority. With his strong moves to the cylinder, Tyree will be able to get to the charity stripe a ton this upcoming season.
7.) P’hariz Watkins (2017) – 6’2 – Chaminade Julienne
Our No. 1 stock riser from the Top 250 expo can play the point and both wing positions, but in the future I see him as a shooting guard. His high intensity on the defensive end will takes a ton of pressure off of the other guard, and has all the offensive characteristics a coach would want out of their starting 2-guard.
6.) Mason Campbell (2018) – 6’2 – St. Peter’s
Campbell made an appearance in our Top 10 article earlier this week. His pure stroke from 3-point land is deadly and if a defender were to give him any space he would have the chance to pull. If I were the opposing coach, I would make sure my game-plan stresses the off-ball defender not leaving Campbell’s side.
5.) DiShon Daniels (2019) – 6’6 – Walnut Hills
This guy is meant to be on the wing, no matter what the personnel is like on his team. Daniels carries a skill set that not many 6’6 sophomores have, and he is not timid on the hardwood even as an underclassman.
4.) Tanner Holden (2019) – 6’5 – Wheelersburg
Holden knows how to put the ball through the nylon, straight up. He didn’t waste any time at the Top 250 expo this past Sunday, going 100 percent right from the first whistle. Holden was one of the most promising players in attendance.
3.) Jamison Lowry (2017) – 6’6 – Cambridge
Lowry is another lengthy wingman that stretches out his game beyond the arc. He not only got himself open without the ball, but was able to pull up off the dribble as if he was a point guard.
2.) Eddie Anders (2017) – 6’3 – Dubline Jerome
Anders definitely has the speed and ball handling to run the point, but when it comes to scoring the basketball, he is just too good to not be placed on the wing. When I say this kid didn’t miss when I was watching, I truly mean he didn’t miss. Scoring in the lane, showing off his range and finding the open man when he didn’t have a good view at the basket.
- Aaron Liones (2018) – 6’3 – Ginn Academy
Named our MVP yesterday, Liones is no doubt the best wingman that came to Pickerington North on Sunday. He is an athletic specimen that defends and scores the ball like a natural. Let’s not forget the junior can shoot.
