With that in mind, coaches will be trying to get a little bit better evaluations as well as brand new ones on some guys. Here are 10 2017 prospects worth a look.
Brandon Eades (6’2 – 2017 – Castle). Eades is a big, strong guard that can drive a bit. Not going to blow past guys using speed but has a steady pace and some handles. Decent shooter as well. Needs to take that next step and turn up the intensity. If he does, he could be a big pickup for a team.
Payton Mills (6’5 – 2017 – Castle). Mills has really taken off this year. He’s got such a big frame and quite a bit of skill that it is really difficult to stop him. Interior player that is going to be dominant even at 6’5. For his size, he packs a big punch on the offensive end especially with his ability to faceup.
Jaylen Lengacher (6’3 – 2017 – North Daviess). Lengacher didn’t get out on the AAU circuit this season but he is a guy to look for. Big, strong wing scorer with the ability to shoot the ball in the 15′-22′ range. Worth a look if you need an offensive wing.
Jadan Manion (6’6 – 2017 – Evansville North). Manion has a lot to offer at times as he is an adept low post scorer. He’s my high-functioning big man. A guy that doesn’t need flash but just goes from Point A to Point B and you really can’t do much. Scores on the block and I’ve seen him step out to three as well.
Jeremiah Bradley (6’3 – 2017 – Evansville Central). Bradley is a big boy at the guard spot. Doesn’t move really well but he’s got the chance to turn his body into a weapon for him if he can improve his handles a bit. Bowling ball driving guard with some touch out to three.
Jaidon Hunter (6’2 – 2017 – Evansville Bosse). Hunter has the complete package right now, grades, frame, and athleticism. He’s really good in the open floor and with his size, has the chance to play at the 1/2 spot in college. Showed off his athleticism this summer too which is a nice addition.
Javien Langley (6’5 – 2017 – Evansville Bosse). Langley really impressed this weekend and proved his value as a do-it-all forward. He’s so aggressive and versatile that you can put him anywhere on the floor and still get production out of him. At the right level, Langley is going to be a nightmare to defend.
Sam Downen (6’7 – 2017 – South Knox). There aren’t a ton of post players in 2017 to recruit in this league but Downen is one that most haven’t seen. Pretty sure he wasn’t playing AAU this year but he’s a big, strong 4/5 that has size and strength. Skill needs work but he’s shown scoring ability in the paint.
Brandon Duncan (6’5 – 2017 – Evansville Harrison). Brandon really had a solid AAU season and upped his stock in my eyes. He became much more aggressive attacking the rim and finishing. Really improved his mentality which has opened up his game so much more.
Jonathan Walker (6’3 – 2017 – Barr-Reeve). Walker is one of the better shooters in the southern part of the state in the class. Big wing with muscle and a frame that is going to fill out pretty quick. Can bring the shooting aspect to a team with the possibility of playing the 3/4 in college.
