Pendleton Co.’s 6’5 sophomore SG Dontaie Allen is one of the top Kentucky players representing the 2019 class, and to some, one of the top players representing that class in the entire country.
“Dontaie has worked extremely hard this off-season”, said Pendleton Co. Head Coach Keaton Belcher. “He’s been a gym rat all spring, summer, and fall. We are expecting him to have an even better season than he did last year. He has all the tools to be a great high school player and a quality high major college basketball player.” This summer Dontaie competed with HoopDreams, one of Kentucky’s premier AAU programs, and college basketball programs immediately took notice of Dontaie’s talent.
“I visited Tennessee earlier this month,” said Allen. Coach Belcher said he also had an unofficial visit to Cincinnati with coaches reaching out to him from Xavier, Creighton, Miami, and Samford. Kentucky assistant coach John Robic visited Falmouth earlier in the year, as well.
This past season Dontaie helped Pendleton Co. reach the 10th Region tournament and you can only assume he has a state tournament berth in his sights in the coming years. The last time Pendleton Co. made the Kentucky state tournament (2005) Coach Belcher was a PCHS senior and on his way to playing college basketball at a high level. The two are hoping to recreate that same type of result together.
