PHI Top 250 Expo: Top Underclassmen Defenders
This past weekend, the Prep Hoops Indiana Top 250 Expo took place up in Westfield, Indiana at the Jonathan Byrd’s Fieldhouse. Now, we are trying to break down what we saw. The following is a look at some of the best defenders we saw in the morning session of 2019 and 2020 prospects.
Eric Jerge (5’9 – 2019 – Munster). This redhead might have been one of the toughest guys we saw all weekend long. Loved his energy and how hard he played. That translated on both ends of the floor but definitely the defensive end as he overwhelmed on-ball guards all day.
J.P. Carroll (5’9 – 2019 – Lawrence North). Carroll really stood out because of his ability to pressure the ball with his quickness. Not going to grow a ton more so I love how he understands positioning and when and where to get into a defender.
Diquan Meriwether (6’0 – 2019 – Bishop Luers). Meriwether was a guy that coaches liked because of his size on the ball and his length and quick first step allowed him to stay with most everybody he went up against. Should have more size in his frame so upside is there.
Corey Landers (6’2 – 2019 – Bishop Noll). Landers was able to show off a lot of what he does well on offense because of his defense. His length and athleticism help him to keep defenders in front of him. He likes to play quick and strong and it makes it difficult for the opposition.
Ethan Brittain–Watts (6’2 – 2019 – Culver Academies). The thing that makes Ethan a good basketball player is the exact reason why we like him as a defender. He’s so smooth while still being quick and he is about as smart as you will find in this class.
