Phinisee About To Have Huge Season
Probably the biggest thing I noticed from my visit was the growth of junior guard Robert Phinisee. He’s grown as a player but also he has just grown. He looked every bit of 6’1 now and a little more filled out in his frame. That is bad news for opponents as he was a heck of a defender and scoring threat last season when he was only 5’11. Robert has grown even since this summer. He’s going to be a nightmare on both ends of the floor and this could be the year that the state really sees his talent shine as McCutcheon plays a little more of a well-traveled schedule.
This Team Can Shoot
At the end of the summer, we saw two McCutcheon players really take off and both did on the backs of their shooting ability. Eddy Collins and Haden Deaton really stepped up their games this July and now they join in with Robert Phinisee. Getting into the lane is pretty easy but I think if teams try to pack it in, McCutcheon is going to be able to shoot their way out of problems even more so than last year. Could also see a freshman like Rowen Ferrell step into that shooter role too. He showed at our Freshman Showcase that he can do that with ease.
Who Will Replace Billy Loft?
Seems like an odd question but really, who is going to replace his toughness, rebounding, and all-around game. He was big last year playing his role and coach Peckinpaugh is great at getting guys into playing their roles. It isn’t determined yet who will be that guy but their are a few contenders. Tyson Scheumann, a senior guard could be the guy. This team will need a guy who can come in and just be the guy that annoys opposing teams.
