Nana Akenten Talks Nebraska Visit
Bolingbrook 2017 small forward Nana Akenten is one of the more coveted prospects still on the board in the state of Illinois. Over the weekend Akenten took his first official visit and it was to Nebraska. We caught up with the talented wing to see what he thought of the visit and what is next.
Akenten is a strong and physical wing with freakish athleticism. He has steadily climbed up the boards over the last two years and heading into his senior year is without a doubt one of the best in the state at his position. Akenten takes and makes tough jumpers from both mid-range and three as he is equally effective pulling up off the bounce or hitting them spotting up for three. Uses his athleticism on both ends of the floor. Offensively finishes above the rim catching lobs in the half court or taking it at the defense in transition. Defensively he has a chance to be a monster with his lateral quickness and speed. Rebounds well for his position.
He has a ton of offers on the table, but chose to take his first official visit to Nebraska. Akenten broke down what stood out about the Big 10 program over the weekend.
“Their academic piece is outstanding and the resources they offer are great. The help and support they give their students is a big plus. I really was able to catch a better feel for the program, coaching staff, and players over my official.”
The coaching staff has really made an impression on Akenten both with him as a person and how he would be used on the floor.
“Their coaching staff cares about their players and does any and everything to help develop them as an athlete and person. I would be a two guard at Nebraska. They told me I was an athletic shooter that they could use for their fast paced playing style.”
What is next in the recruiting process?
“I’m still talking to my coaches about visits and dates.”
Any schools that he knows he wants to get out too?
“That’s the hard part. Singling out schools and picking which ones I want to visit. So nothing official yet.”
Akenten is the #8 overall prospect in the 2017 class and #3 small forward. He had a monster spring/summer with Hoopers/Celtics on the grassroots circuit.
