Keondre Schumacher Commits to Winthrop
Class of 2017 point guard Keondre Schumacher (Normal University HS) is a worker.
The greatest reward is the journey itself we are told, but sometimes young men deserve to see the fruits of their labor. For Keondre that sometime is tonight.
Schumacher joins the Winthrop Eagles (verbally) and intends to sign this fall.
He and his family took an official visit just last week to Winthrop.
“It was really, really good,” said father Chris Schumacher. “The head coach came to open gym last Tuesday. Keondre really liked his energy from the start. We basically set up the visit in about 24 hours notice. And when he sat in the head coach’s office…the energy and the style of play really fits Keondre’s game.”
Keondre is an electric guard with exceptional speed, great shooting touch, and the ability to inspire greatness from teammates.
Winthrop is a program accustomed to greatness.
“I do know there was a 3-4 year lull after Coach (Gregg) Marshall left,” said Coach Schumacher. “Then they hired this new guy, Coach (Pat) Kelsey. They have been right there the last 3-4 years. I know he played at Xavier. He is a smaller guard, high energy.”
Like Keondre, Coach Kelsey thrives off energy. The pair should be quite the match in the coming years.

“We did a lot of research on a lot of schools,” said Coach Schumacher. “Historically they have proven that they play at a high level. They have a chance to play in the tournament.”
Schumacher is ranked #30 in Illinois by PrepHoopsIllinois.com and thrived with All-In/Young & Reckless all July!
