Hoop Group Baltimore Top 100 Notebook
Baltimore, MD — The Hoop Group Top 100 came to Park School, hosting a strong pool of talent from around the area. Several players stood out during a full day of exciting action. Below we take closer look at some of the biggest standouts at each position.
Top Big Man | Justin Lewis (Calvert Hall ’20)
Justin Lewis rocked the rim on several occasions at Park School, including on a monster two-handed put back dunk in traffic. Lewis can hit the three, can score with his back to the basket and from the triple threat. Lewis has very good defensive potential, given his considerable length and awareness.
Top Wing | Will Thomas (Mount Carmel ’19)
Will Thomas exhibited impressive energy and confidence on both ends of the court. The lanky wing is a prolific shooter who has unbelievable range with either hand. Thomas is also a very good leaper who can defend equally well on the perimeter and at the rim. Thomas erupted for over 30 points in one game, showcasing his ability to score in bunches.
Top Scoring Guard | Kyndle Jones (Dulaney ’17)
Kyndle Jones was difficult to contain throughout the day. Jones was able to use his quickness to consistently beat defenders off the bounce and get into the paint where he converted around the basket with variety and efficiency. Jones likes to push the ball in transition where he utilizes his pace and craftiness to create easy opportunities.
Top Distributor | Amir Harris (St. Maria Goretti ’18)
At 6-foot-4, Amir Harris is a long and active guard who has great vision and size for his position. Harris is very unselfish, can see over the top of defenders and deliver passes from various angles.
Top Combo Guard | Damian Chong-Qui (McDonogh ’17)
Damian Chong-Qui was a blur with the ball in his hands, and demonstrated the ability to pull up on a dime and hit from almost anywhere on the floor. Chong-Qui is a good paint getter who is adept at continuously creating easy looks for himself and others.
Top Three Point Shooter | Zephaniah Esguerra (Dunbar ’18)
This was one of the more difficult superlatives to choose, because we saw some great shooting throughout the day, but Zephaniah Esguerra was certainly among the most consistent. Esguerra is very quick and crafty, and is effective as a shooter both from the catch and off the dribble.
Top Pest | Xavier Joyner Jr. (Paul VI ’19)
